Festival Review – Friday, September 24th

It has been a wonderful second evening at the first Between the Beats Festival. As expected, there was a big run on the gigs of Malia and Manu Katché. Dieter Ilg and the Studnitzky Trio were playing the Jazz Club. Even though the rainy weather did not invite the visitors to linger around the venue, the people inside the Kultur & Bürgerhaus rocked the house.

The team of Between the Beats kept an eye on the strike situation in France during the last few days because today there were actually two festival artists travelling from France to Germany. But in the end it all worked out quite well and the gigs in the Big Hall began right in time. Malia performed first and she bewitched her audience with a wonderful mixture of jazz and soul. Afterwards one of the world's best drummers performed with his band, the crowd celebrated Manu Katché and his band Third Round frenetically. At the same time bass solo player Dieter Ilg from Freiburg performed in the Jazz Club followed by the great Studnitzky Trio from Berlin.
