Freiburg based bassist, Dieter Ilg, is one of the few top European musicians capable of leaving his own unmistakable musical imprint on any project he takes part in. Be it as sought-after, stylistical band member or as head of his own ensembles, Ilg’s bass playing is characterised by grace, ease and intenseness of expression. He gives credit to the bass’s important role within any ensemble but at the same time seems to transcend the instrumental limitations usually assigned to the double bass.

Dieter Ilg has released a whole range of his own albums (e.g. »Bass« and »Fieldwork«) and has participated in a great variety of productions and live groups with musicians such as: Albert Mangelsdorff, John McLaughlin, Till Brönner, Randy Brecker, Thomas Quasthoff, Charlie Mariano and Rebekka Bakken.
