The Malawian-British singer, Malia, is one of today’s most exciting female jazz and soul vocalists. Malia was born in Malawi and moved to London in her teens. She was strongly influenced in her decision to become a singer by Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone, whose collective musical influence is present throughout her three published albums.

Malia’s voice is tender, aloof and innocent, nearly fragile. She orientates herself directly and closely with the melody, but at the same time manages to express a very distinct and personal style within her songs. She represents an incredible mixture of classical timelessness and explosive modernity. The best way to appreciate the full impact of Malia’s amazing voice is undoubtedly live, together with her trio.
