The current album »Egis« of keyboarder and trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzkyand and his trio is a complex and compelling album which easily bridges the gap between jazz, electronica and - for example - trip hop. Studnitzkys fellow musicians on Egis are Paul Kleber (bass) and Sebastan Merk (drums). The album was published by Herzog Records in 2010.
Egis is really cleverly arranged. Although mid-tempo and slow tracks dominate it does not sound like many of the current productions crossing the boarderline to pop which often sound exchangeable.
Sebastian Studnitzky is a musician with a broad perspective. He’s happy to experiment. This becomes especially apparent in the title track of the CD. Changes in tempo, exceptional percussion and highly interesting electronical influences form a harmonious whole. Studnitzky interest in electronica manifests itself in the subsequent track »Moskau«. His trumpet playing shows how meditative, nearly psychedelic sounds can be created with very discreet means.
None of the pieces on Egis sounds like the other. This is what makes the album so attractive. Apart from the above mentoned tracks I would like to recommend to listen to »Fugato« and »Dizzy Days« as appertizers for the album. My favourite piece though is »Abend«, a wonderful slow number which I can’t stop listening to. Beautiful, nearly bluesy hamonies with Studnitzky’s pointed improvisations. This piece is my personal soundtrack for spring. You close your eyes and can virtually smell summer. I really like the album, it’s definately one of the best jazz-releases of this year so far.
We are exceptionally happy to welcome the Studnitzky Trio to our first Between the Beats Jazz-Festival. The three musicians will introduce their album on September 24th 2010 in the »Jazz Club« (small hall) after the solo concert of Dieter Ilg. By the way – it was Dieter Ilg who was the bassist on Studnitzky’s first trio album. Is there such a thing as coincidence?

Quite close to the original version but individual enough to give the track a taste of WHB.
